Kuantan/Cherating
In the Kuantan and the surrounding area is full of culture, the Kuantan coast offers an easy glimpse into everyday Malay life.

We have an abundant with exotic flora and fauna - wild orchids and exotic birds, multicoloured butterflies and even families of monkeys have made their home nearby.

Any trip to the area requires at least a quick tour of the town of Kuantan, even if the beach is your main goal. The town is remarkably friendly and easily to explore on foot. Mosques give the town's architecture an exotic feel. The colonial-styled Courthouse and Handicraft Center adds contrast, and a reminder of British rule.

Old Kuantan is still alive, and a walk down Jalan Besar (literally "Big Street") will take you back in time a little. The town's Hindu and Buddhist temples are located in this area.

Teluk Chempedak is about 3 miles from the town of Kuantan. It is among the more developed beaches in the region, with several world class hotels. And whatever beach fun you happen to be looking for -- sailing, surfing, skiing or just sunbathing -- Teluk Chempedak has it. Without straying too far afield you can also visit the more isolated Pelindung Beach in nearby Teluk Chempedak Forest Reserve. And if you are up to a little hike, there are waterfalls and a mini-zoo in the area.

WIND SURFING

About 9 miles north of Kuantan is Balok Beach -- a paradise for wind-surfing fanatics. Tropical breezes and long stretches white sand blend with the crystal blue South China Sea to make relaxation impossible to resist.

Further north, 28 miles from Kuantan is Cherating where the beaches are wider and seem to extend up and down the coast forever. The bustle of city life fades. A variety of tourist  services in the Cherating area, is also nice, inexpensive .

Beserah Beach is a local fishing village where you can watch the fishermen use water buffaloes to haul their catch from the shore to a processing area. The community is about 6 miles from Kuantan and includes a batik fabric factory and several handicraft shops.

Snorkeling and scuba diving are excellent around the the Island on 900 Meters out from Sanctuary Resort.

About 6 miles past Cherating, Chendor Beach is best known for its turtles. From early July to September, the green turtles (and occasionally a giant leatherback) come ashore to lay eggs.

The best river wilds can be found in Sungai Padas, Sungai Papar, Sungai Tamparuli, Sungai Kiulu in Sabah, Sungai Skrang in Sarawak, Sungai Tembeling and Jeram Besu in Pahang, and Sungkai river in the State of Perak.
